Local Triathletes Qualify for Hawaii Ironman

At Ironman USA Ben Vaughan, David O'Neill and Joe Vagi qualified for the
Ironman Triathlon World Championships.
Karen Holloway added another outstanding performance to her professional resume by finishing 3rd among the Pro Women.
Other Virginia Qualifiers include Catherine Phillips and Carol Housaman.
Over 80 Virginians competed in Lake Placid, NY on July 28. Congratulations to everyone.

Other outstanding finishes by local triathletes include: Amy Frostick - 2nd 30-34F
David O'Neill - 3rd 50-54M Deborah Kopecky - 6th 35-39F Cathy Sykes - 10th 45-49F
and Virgil King - 3rd 60-64M Chris Haas completed the race in the top 100
while breaking 5 hours.
For those who haven't heard, the water was warm enough for USAT officials to disallow wetsuits. In addition, the expected temperature
was so high that race officials started the race an hour earlier than scheduled!

Going to the Show

Jamie Pierce is living proof that volunteering is rewarded. The day after Jamie worked the finish line at
the Virginia Duathlon he was informed by WAVY TV that he was going to the Hawaii Ironman.
The TV Crew interrupted a meeting at Coastal Training Technology with the surprise that Jamie had won
a spot in the Hawaii Ironman Lottery! Congrats and Good Luck, Jamie!
