2003 Triathlon Grand Prix Standings Well, after a lot of strange swim legs, the Grand Prix Series has come to a close. Congratulations to the many Striders who competed in the Grand Prix. 239 Strider Triathletes participated in at least one of the Series Races.
Hurricane Isabel attempted to end the Series prematurely but thanks to the efforts of Brian Sagedy and the Neptune Festival, a modified Sandman was held. The strong swimmers were able to gain some ground in the final standings along with taking advantage of those who could not make the rescheduled date.
At the Outer Banks Triathlon, wet suits were not allowed to be worn by athletes competing for awards. To provide for fairer scoring of the Grand Prix, the swim time of each athlete who chose to wear a wetsuit was increased by 10%.
Since the Senior Olympics swim leg was cancelled at the Breezy Point Triathlon, the average of the swim and T-1 of the respective age groups of each Senior Olympian was added to the bike, T-2 and run times to obtain a time for Grand Prix Scoring Calculations.
Unless otherwise corrected, the triathletes in bold will receive the awards for those categories. The awards will be presented at the Annual Tidewater Striders Banquet in February.
Please remember that you must do at least 3 Grand Prix races to be eligible for an award. Also there is no double-dipping on awards, if you win a Masters or Overall award, you do not get an Age Group Award.
